Meet the Author

Born in the early 1960s to a loving West Virginia family, Tom has spent a lifetime paying attention to the things that matter: faith, family, friendship, and the honest truth of everyday life. A retired State Farm agent with a career that ran through finance, insurance, and the nonprofit world, he now writes the stories he has been living all along.

He and his wife Jennifer have been married nearly forty years. Together they raised three daughters and, today, count five grandchildren with another on the way. This Could Happen to You is his first book, and his invitation to see your own life inside his.

Early 1960s
A West Virginia boy
Born to a loving family with two younger brothers. Plenty of playing, plenty of fighting, and always defending one another.
Mid 1960s
Under Lake Erie
Dad took a job in the salt mine beneath the lake, so the family moved to Ohio. By fifth grade Tom had already attended seven schools, always the new kid.
1973
Finding home
Back in West Virginia, Mom and Dad bought their first house. A neighborhood full of kids, and a best friend named Keith who is still like a third brother today.
1987
Jennifer
He met the love of his life while working at McDonald's. They married that September, and this year marks nearly thirty-nine very happy years.
1991 to 1996
Three daughters
Leah, then Erin and Rachel. The family came back to West Virginia to raise the girls close to their grandparents.
2000 to 2006
Building a life
An MBA from West Virginia University, then a new calling as a State Farm agent, serving neighbors and building something that lasted.
2021 to 2023
Hard seasons, and home
Tom retired to care for his mother and mother-in-law, both of whom passed that year. In 2023 he and Jennifer moved to Morgantown to be near their kids and grandkids.
Today
Blessed
A beautiful wife, three lovely daughters, two fantastic sons-in-law, and five grandchildren with one on the way. Tom will tell you he is blessed, and he means it.
